A Sweet Stop in Bloomington: Why I Love Supporting Local Favorites Like Bloomington Chocolate Company

April 07, 20261 min read

Today I had the chance to stop by Bloomington Chocolate Company, which shares space with The Olive Leaf, to pick up a small gift for a past client who invited me over for coffee. It was one of those simple errands that ended up feeling like much more than that.

There’s something special about walking into a local shop and finding the perfect little gift. The chocolates were beautiful, thoughtful, and felt much more personal than picking something up from a big chain store. It reminded me how much I appreciate the local businesses we have here in Bloomington and the way they make everyday moments feel a little more meaningful.

One of the things I love most about living and working in Bloomington is that there are places like this woven into the community. Whether it’s a gift for a client, something for a friend, or even just a treat for yourself, spots like Bloomington Chocolate Company and The Olive Leaf have a way of making the experience feel warm and personal.

What struck me today was how these small moments often tie back to what makes a place feel like home. Real estate is, of course, about helping people buy and sell homes, but it’s also about community, relationships, and the places that become part of our everyday lives.

Stopping in for chocolates for a client I helped a few years ago was a sweet reminder that relationships continue long after closing day. Those connections, and the local businesses that help us celebrate them, are part of what makes Bloomington such a wonderful place to live.

I work with buyers and sellers across Bloomington, Bedford, Ellettsville, and the surrounding south-central Indiana communities. Some are downsizing. Some are relocating for work at Cook, Novo Nordisk, IU, or Crane. Some are parents buying a place for their student at IU. Some are first-time buyers trying to figure out where to start. What they have in common is they want a straight answer and a plan that fits their situation, not a sales pitch. 20+ years in this market. JD/MBA.
